Synopsis Broken and battered, our hero returns to the spot of his fondest childhood memories and confronts his fate head-on. Background Capitalizing off of the wild and crazy success of Vert, we filmed a follow-up. Shot on a Saturday morning trip up to Seattle, we rented a wheelchair and drove back out to Golden Gardens. While it may seem like a slight throwaway film - there are some really cool things I like about it. I like the sepia filmlook generated in Final Cut Pro. I like the extreme close-ups of the pores on Kirk's face. I like the disjointed dialogue during the car ride. I like the choice of Helvetica as the typeface for the title sequence. I like the cut from the driving to him sitting in the wheelchair as the car door slams. I like the p.o.v. shot as the wheelchair tracks across the sand - which was nearly impossible to push I might add. I like the crazed happy look on Kirk's face as he snow angels in the sand. But mostly I appreciate the fact that Kirk was willing to climb fully clothed into an icy water body and hold his head underwater for take after take as I shot the wheelchair wheel spinning in the foreground. Again, thank you. "Mommy is he drown-ding?" |
