Synopsis

An animated television commercial for Nerdworks Computing in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Background

I was approached to create the 30-second television spot for this growing computer business in mid-November 2005 - with the caveat that it be ready to air by Christmas.

And it was ready. I completed the project in less than 80 hours and under budget. This was due in part to my close working relationship with the business owner, and his enthusiasm for my graphic style and production techniques. Ideas went back and forth and we were able to decide on a concept and direction very quickly.

Although Nerdworks is a Windows-oriented business, I am as always a steadfast Macintosh advocate. As usual, Adobe Illustrator was used to create the graphics which were then animated in After Effects and edited together in Final Cut Pro.

Upon delivery of my animation, testimonials of satisfied clients were filmed and composited into the doughnut hole at a Baton Rouge area production facility.

They also replaced my temp voiceover with one that better fit the style of the piece.

The flexibility of the doughnut and its hole enables the business owner to use my animation, yet switch out the middle section over time - for new testimonials, seasonal promotions, et cetera.
