Synopsis Heartfelt, heavy-handed, reflective, and elegantly woven, Clowntime is Over is a new short film about Kirk Hostetter: husband, father, brother, son, architect, Steeler fan, cinephile, and chronic masturbator. This insightful portrait by Evan Mather deconstructs, reassembles, and then blows to bits their tumultuous relationship. Background A direct response to Prolifique - which Kirk completed a year earlier - I filmed this short in secret over a Labor Day trip to Seattle. The end result was a surprise Christmas present for Kirk. This time however, "I" get the chance to kill "Kirk" twice - he only killed me once. "Kirk" and Jill are watching the Steeler game from Icarus of Pittsburgh at the beginning. Woody and I watched In The Bedroom in preparation. Kirk can in fact go for days without showering. (Whether he is a chronic self-satisfier is pure speculation.) As with Prolifique, I am played by someone else, in this case our friend Christopher. This time Woody plays Kirk, a real person - and Rusty, a fictional character played by Kirk in Airplane Glue. The font: Clarendon.
